![]() There is a special subcategory which are devices that offer a GUI for developing algorithms without writing (much?) code. ![]() If you need it to be mass producible in such a way that you can make a profit, I am the wrong person to ask! Once you've convinced yourself that you're up to it, if you need it to be more portable/self contained than a PC or Macbook, then go about finding a platform that can handle both the CPU cycles and the I/O requirements of what you're doing. ![]() Get started by learning how to write plugins and see if you can implement the functionality you are after as a plugin for your PC or Mac. Pick a development strategy that is portable (or relatively so) such as C++ or Faust. Hologram Electronics has been behind some fairly radical effect pedals, including the Dream Sequence and the Infinite Jets resynthesizer. I'll trot out one of my philosophies about DSP (which excludes the FV-1 as it is in a class unto itself). Cascading microloops can be locked into tight tap-tempo synced rhythms, diffused into glacial ambient textures, woven into hypnotic drones, and much more. The hardest and/or most fun part is trying to find the sounds, at least with the Jets.Looks pretty elaborate. Microcosm rearranges and reinterprets your sound in new and exciting ways using a variety of granular sampling, delay, and looping techniques. I think that anyone that buys this thing based on the video will not be disappointed in the least. On this weeks episode of Working Class Music, were continuing our Pedals of Summer Series with the Microcosm by Hologram Electronics. Hologram Electronics Microcosm Reviews: 1 Type: Multi Effects Pedals Ranked 17 Setups: 4 setups using this Videos: 3 demo videos Alternatives: 0. I may need to check one out one day, and may replace a Jets with it, mostly because of the larger loop function, reverb and stereo capabilities, and more saved settings. The best you can do is to save 2 settings, and have the controls set to a third one to switch over to, and hope the knobs don’t move too much. The Jets does loops, but only of a certain size (threshold triggered or user triggered, poly or mono), no real reverb, and the fact that it’s mono and it only has 2 presets is kind of irritating, considering all the great, crazy shit that it’s capable of and the relative difficulty of dialing in settings. Hologram Electronics specializes in pedals that reinterpret your playing into droning ambient pads, choppy pitch-shifted patterns and chaotic musical glitches. It offers 4 separate sampling effects in one: Blur, Synth, Glitch, and Swell. We create unique effects pedals inspired by sounds and features often associated with synthesizers, computers, and racks of unwieldy music gear. Cut up your signal into granular pieces, tweak and. The Microcosm features eleven granular effects to choose from, as well as a low-pass filter with a control for resonance, as well as a 60 second looper and enhanced MIDI control. ![]() 10 unique presets can be manipulated by its internal LFO, envelope shaper, analog drive, and expression controls. The Microcosm is a wondrous machine, a next-level sampling and delay multi-effect built for experimentation. ![]() Maybe some different voicing and other effects as well. Infinite Jets is a multi-voice synth pedal that resynthesizes individual notes/chords into new sounds using two independent sampling channels. The Jets seems to do a lot of what this does, but there also seems to be more to it, with the loops, reverb, stereo capability and the additional memory presets. That thing is nice, and the new features are probably worth the extra price over the Infinite Jets. Although I’ve been scared to do it, I just looked at that video. ![]()
